Ohio State Buckeyes Honor Legendary Coach Jim Tressel

The Ohio State Buckeyes will honor legendary coach Jim Tressel in Week 1.

Tressel won a national championship at Ohio State in 2002.

What is the honor?

The Ohio State football team is enshrining former head coach Jim Tressel into the Ohio Stadium Ring of Honor.

This recognition is a testament to Tressel's successful coaching career at Ohio State.

Why is it significant?

Tressel is the third Buckeyes head coach to be honored at the stadium, joining Woody Hayes and Paul Brown.

He led the team to a national championship in 2002 and had a lasting impact on the program.

Tressel served as head coach at Youngstown State before joining the Buckeyes.

What does Tressel say?

"I grew up admiring Paul Brown and Woody Hayes, and they both meant so much to our family," Tressel said.

"To be recognized alongside these men is truly humbling," he added.

Tressel's final season coaching at Ohio State was in 2010.

He resigned in May 2011 after the school was involved in an NCAA investigation.

What's next?

Tressel will be honored by Ohio State on September 5 when the Buckeyes play Ball State.

Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork praised Tressel's impact on the program.

"Jim Tressel's impact on Ohio State is long-lasting and still ever-present on our campus," Bjork said.

Tressel later served as President of Youngstown State University.

He currently serves as the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.

The honor recognizes Tressel's contributions to the Ohio State football program.

Tressel's coaching career at Ohio State was marked by success and tradition.

The Buckeyes will recognize his achievements on September 5.
