The Ohio State Buckeyes have been experiencing a slow start to the recruiting trail, with several elite recruits yet to commit to the program. One of the top targets, four-star defensive lineman Kasi Currie, was once projected to pick the Buckeyes, but a day before his commitment, the prediction flipped to him committing to Texas. On Thursday afternoon, Currie made his choice between the Buckeyes and the Longhorns, ultimately deciding to pick the Longhorns over the Buckeyes. This decision comes despite the fact that Ohio State has dominated Texas over the last two seasons, beating them in the College Football Playoff and during the regular season. The Buckeyes will likely face Texas again in September, but for now, they have lost out on a key recruit. Ryan Day and his squad still have just 13 commitments for the 2027 class, which is below expectations for this point in the cycle. Day needs to do something to change the momentum, as the Buckeyes are starting to slide backwards. This weekend could be a turning point for the Buckeyes, as they have the opportunity to land five-star receiver recruit Monshun Sales, who will be on campus this weekend. Sales is from the state of Indiana and is currently favored to head to Indiana, but the Buckeyes are hoping to flip that prediction in their favor. If they can land Sales, it would be a significant boost for the receiver position, which is currently led by Jeremiah Smith, the best receiver in the country. Coaching Smith another year will give the new wide receivers coach, Cortez Hankton, a boost in recruiting. Depending on how things go this weekend, Ohio State might finally be able to stop the poor streak of momentum on the recruiting trail. Losing out on Currie was not something they wanted to see happen.
